Surgery and periodontal treatments

Periodontal surgery involves remodeling the gum and bone to reduce the risk of new periodontal disease. Surgical procedures aim to either remove some of the diseased gum and bone for better access for cleaning, or to reconstruct the missing tissue to return it to a healthier state.

If gum disease has damaged the bone surrounding the root of your tooth, treatment options include replacing it with a graft. When the gums recede, a graft can help restore some of the lost tissue.
